Research has shown that for mild depression regular exercise is equally as effective as taking an antidepressant.
It takes discipline to exercise on a regular basis. That's why I encourage you to find a fun activity that excites you and makes you happy... but also happens to move your body!
My passion is to play ultimate frisbee. Every Sunday morning, my husband and I meet with the same 10 people to play. He and I have played in the GrandMaster League for over a decade but the league has been shut down due to COVID. Now we find solace with this small group and follow strict rules of engagement. We play outdoors with no contact. It’s worked out well and no one has gotten sick. I play with a group much younger than me and I can still keep up ;-)
The key to regular exercise is to find something that gets you moving without making it “exercise.” Some examples are dancing, going for a walk outside and playing fetch with your dog. If you love baseball, you could get your body moving by throwing and catching a ball with mitts at a distance. You could even have a Zoom dance party with friends!

Understanding where you came from gives you clues about how to change your health status for the future. My mother came to this country from India and she became quite ill with severe rheumatoid arthritis. I noticed as a teenager that when she was in India again for several months that many of her symptoms remitted. I thought it was because she happy to be “home” but she corrected me and said home was the USA. It was years later that I realized that it was the food that was different. Fresh food....fresh vegetables and fruits, curries and rice which were naturally gluten-free with fresh turmeric and healing spices, and fresh milk from cows in the fields to make yogurt naturally overnight. If your family is from another country and was healthy while living there and then started to have health issues once they came to the US, it is possible that their body is rejecting the SAD standard American diet. Go back to eating what you might eat in your country of origin.
